Interim Inspection Report 2010

An innovation this last academic year is what is termed an Interim Inspection Report. It particularly concentrates on the Independent School Standards Regulations along with the frequent amendments applied to these regulations by the Department of Children, Schools and Families.

Ours was carried out in March 2010. We have already instigated recommendations made on a dust extractor for the scroll saws, a protective cage for the kiln, and – although boys have never been able to get into the room where chemicals are kept because the door is unlocked only when a member of staff is using the store room – providing an additional locked cupboard for the chemicals. Whilst the report describes “the appointments process” of staff as “thorough”, some paperwork was not completed as required. This has been corrected.

Finally, after we joined with Milbourne Lodge Junior School (now referred to as Shrewsbury Lodge) in Summer 2009, Governors from both schools formed a new Governing Body. Those from Shrewsbury Lodge had CRB checks through the Lodge, and had only visited SHS when the boys were not at school or when supervised, the Shrewsbury Lodge Governors apparently should not have been appointed to the combined Shrewsbury House and Lodge Governing Body before SHS had CRB checked them. This, of course, was all completed a long time ago.
