Shrewsbury House School and Milbourne Lodge Junior School have today announced that they will join forces to create a school that will be able to offer a first-class education all the way from 3 to 13. As part of the move, Milbourne Lodge Junior School will change its name to Shrewsbury Lodge.
Welcoming the move, Mark Ross, who has been Headmaster of Shrewsbury House for 21 years and who now has overall responsibility for both schools, said:
‘We have for some time wanted Shrewsbury House to have its own Pre-Prep and ideally on a separate site. We have now achieved that aim in the best possible circumstances. It is a natural fit for us: the two schools share similar philosophies and know each other well as a large number of boys from Milbourne Lodge Junior School come to Shrewsbury House every year.’
The two schools, both highly praised in recent Inspection Reports, will continue to operate on their current sites at Ditton Road, Surbiton and Milbourne Lane, Esher. They will share one Governing Body, drawn from the two schools, which will be chaired by Andrew Weiss, currently Chairman of Shrewsbury House.
Shrewsbury Lodge will continue to welcome boys and girls from the age of 3 to 8. A major £1.3 million refurbishment of its buildings and facilities will be completed by the end of the summer, making it a state of the art teaching environment.
What Shrewsbury House offers will be unaffected; it will continue to provide the outstanding academic, sporting, musical and artistic education, for which it is well-known, to boys aged 7 to 13.
Vivien Gillman, Chair of Governors of Milbourne Lodge School, said:
‘We are very pleased to be joining Shrewsbury House. They have similar values and a very strong reputation – we have both received outstanding Inspection Reports. As well as the benefit we will derive from being part of a larger school, our pupils will in future have access to the excellent sports and music facilities at Shrewsbury House.’
Andrew Weiss, Chairman of Governors of Shrewsbury House School, who will be Chairman of the new charitable trust, said:
‘This was a great opportunity which we have seized with both hands. We are delighted that children will now be able to start with us at 3. By becoming one, larger school we are ideally placed for continued success in the future.’
