Appointment of Headmaster for Shrewsbury House School (from Sep 2010)

24th Mar 2010 at 8:16a.m. by admin

Kevin Doble, HM Elect at SHS

I am delighted to be able to let you know that our search for a new headmaster has been successfully completed and that Kevin Doble will be joining us as the new head in September 2010.

Kevin is currently Second Master (Deputy Head) at Edge Grove, a prep school in North West London. It has 370 children, including 120 in pre-prep and 250 at prep school level with 80 who board, and he was Acting Head for six months.

He was educated at St John's College, Johannesburg, and obtained a BA in Law and Political Sciences as well as a Post Graduate degree in Management at The University of the Witwatersrand. He also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at The Roehampton Institute.

His previous teaching posts have been at Newlands School in Sussex where he was head of English and Housemaster, Vinehall Preparatory School, where he was head of English and Scholars’ tutor, and has been at Edge Grove since 2004 as Second Master. He is a member of IAPS and is on the IAPS Major Committee for sports.

On a sporting level he is an accomplished coach and manager of several senior representative Hockey squads, managing for England Hockey the Saxon Tigers U15 and U17 squads, and has also coached the Edge Grove 1st XI, who have been unbeaten in fixtures since 2005. He also coaches the Cricket XI who won the JET cup (National Prep Schools Competition) in 2009. He is a member of Western Province Cricket Club and plays golf to a handicap of 8, as well as the occasional foray into coaching Rugby.

His other interests include opera, children's literature (writing and analysis), poetry, painting and drawing, and amateur dramatics.

He was the outstanding candidate from a very strong list of applicants which included a number of existing heads and I, and all of the governing board, believe he will be an inspirational leader, just as Mark Ross has been for the past 23 years, for the boys, staff and the rest of the Shrewsbury House community.

I am sure you will all join me in welcoming him to our School.

Andrew Weiss
Chairman of Governors
