Why Shrewsbury House School?

Our aim is to allow your son to develop his potential to the maximum and we have the highest aspirations for him whether his talents lie academically, in sport, musically, or any other area. Our expectations are high and every boy is encouraged to ‘have a go’ across our broad curriculum. Most of our teachers are subject specialists who are committed and knowledgeable, who delight in bringing their subject to life in the classroom.

Our boys emerge at age 13 as intellectually curious young men who have had numerous opportunities to reach their full potential and shine; at Shrewsbury House, a boy’s effort and attainment are duly celebrated.

Each year we send boys to a range of England’s great Day and Boarding Schools. Our Year 8 leavers in 2019 were no exception and won 37 Scholarships, Subject Awards and Subject Prizes to their senior schools.

Aspiration

Academic work is at the heart of what we do at Shrewsbury House and we want your son to be happy and thrive. Our focus is on the whole child, as we are very aware that all aspects of school life contribute significantly to the well-being and potential of an individual boy. Our aim is to allow your son to have the opportunity to develop his potential to the maximum. This means setting the highest academic expectations for your son, and then developing the systems to monitor and support his acceleration.

We believe that this will allow your son to achieve more than they could have imagined. Learning support is available for all boys, and not just those with learning difficulties or boys who are identified as exceptionally gifted and able. Pastoral care is key to supporting your son on his educational journey and your son’s tutor will play a vital role in his life at Shrewsbury House, encouraging your son to flourish.

Support

A wide-ranging extra-curricular programme also adds to the educational experience and enrichment opportunities that your son will have. The curriculum is designed to ensure that your son has many opportunities to maximise his potential. Our residential trips – whether within the United Kingdom, or beyond its borders – are wonderful opportunities for boys to develop leadership and teamwork skills.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), Opening Minds, Project & Problem-Based Learning, and Leadership are part of our exciting learning opportunities within the curriculum. In addition, competitions, either in-house or inter-school, provide opportunities for boys to showcase their talents and ability, and, indeed, help foster a curiosity for learning.
