Facilities
The school site is set in a beautiful leafy area in Surbiton, Surrey. Although the main school house dates back to the Arts and Crafts movement, our modern facilities support the excellent teaching and learning that takes place at Shrewsbury House Prep.
Light-filled, well-equipped classrooms provide the perfect learning environment for our small classes with interactive smartboards in each room, as well as Chrome books, ipads and laptops. The well-stocked and welcoming School Library helps instil the development of a strong reading culture. The Library is also a place to unwind with friends over a game of chess at lunchtime.
There are two fully equipped science laboratories and an additional junior laboratory in which the boys engage in their science experiments. These have been fully updated to provide the highest quality learning environments for Science and STEAM teaching. Creative arts are also well supported through our high-tech Design Technology room, where the boys can design and build a motorised vehicle or a marble labyrinth and our Art Room where boys work on projects using a wide range of media, including 2D and 3D work. Recent additions include a laser cutter and laser printer. In Coding, Computing and Robotics, our Lego Mindstorms education sets will introduce each boy to coding a robotic device.
We have eight Music Rooms which are used throughout the day for one-to-one lessons or for boys to practise during break times. Bands are often setup by the boys themselves and supported by our dedicated and passionate music team.
In Sport, we remain one of the few stand-alone Preps with an International Rugby Board (IRB) certified All-Weather Surface – suitable for competitive rugby, cricket and football. This facility is of immense value in ensuring that your son will get the maximum sporting opportunities. Our large, dedicated sports ground (off-site) is regarded as one of the premier grass facilities among Prep Schools with an exciting new Sports Pavilion where fixtures and events are hosted for the whole community.
On site, we have a heated swimming pool with a retractable roof, providing a flexible indoor and outdoor swim experience. Our full-sized sports hall is equipped with four cricket nets with bowling machine and video analysis, as well as ‘daylight technology’ lighting to aid cricketers facing balls at pace. As well as significantly boosting the indoor cricket provision, the multi-purpose hall can be used for many different sports. There is a full-size basketball court, as well as the option of playing 5-a-side football, badminton and indoor tennis. The hall is used during PE lessons for these sports, as well as gymnastics and circuit training sessions.
