What a joy it was to have so many families join us to celebrate one of the most wonderful evenings of the year, within the glorious setting of Epsom College Chapel.
Our Carol Service featured all four of the school’s choirs and began with a clear and stirring solo verse of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, sung so impressively by Hari Stewart. This was followed by a lovely performance of ‘Bright Star’ by the Junior Choir. The Middle School Choir sang ‘Sing, Sing for Christ is Born’ – a complex yet beautiful round.
The SHS Singers were on fine form, performing a number of pieces in collaboration with the Senior Voices, including ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Mary, Did You Know?’ They rounded off the evening with a moving rendition of John Taverner’s ‘The Lamb’, producing a rare level of choral collaboration and sound. The Service was brought together by the wonderful congregational singing led by all the boys of the school and which featured a professional brass group including trumpeter Rafe Buxton and, on the trombone, Ben Clarke.
The readers read with confidence and clarity. Well done to the following boys:
Christian Dickinson, Connor Lloyd, Jasper Cole, Alex Simpson, Simon Morris, Aiden Zhang, Leo Foulger, Taysir Sharaf, Freddie Heaton, Luke Williams, Eric Taylor, Harry Love, George Hennessy, Christy Moore and Nicholas Murfin.
Thank you also to Jed Lloyd (candle), Thomas Incledon (close & Order of Service), George Hennessy (Order of Service), Ben Moffatt (Order of Service) and to all of the Prefects who assisted on the evening. We are delighted to announce that £1815 was raised in the retiring collection, which will be split between Momentum Children’s Charity and SPEAR, a local charity that works with the homeless. Thank you to all the SHS community for your very generous donations.
