The overseas sports tour is an established feature on the Shrewsbury House sporting calendar, providing the opportunity for our boys to compete against overseas clubs and school teams while experiencing the local culture.
Our international sports tours include a Rugby tour to South Africa, Cricket tour to St Lucia and Football tour to Spain.
Spain Football Tour
Over the past few years Shrewsbury House has enjoyed considerable success on a National level in Football. A key factor to this is the effort that we undertake on our pre-season tours and Football Camp. In recent times the Football squad have travelled to Valencia, Spain.
St Lucia Cricket Tour
How many boys can say they have taken wickets, scored runs or chased a ball to the boundary at a Test Cricket venue? That is what a cricket tour to St Lucia with Shrewsbury House offers!
SHS boys have the opportunity to experience this, as well as learn about the history of the country and enjoy the blue sea and white sand of St Lucia. Participation in the tour is open to all boys, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience an overseas cricket tour.
South Africa Rugby Tour
Our major overseas Rugby tour runs every other year. Once again, the tour is open to every Senior boy who wishes to participate. In recent years, Shrewsbury House rugby players have headed to South Africa during the Easter holidays, giving the boys the opportunity to explore a fascinating country and play some competitive fixtures against schools in Cape Town and Durban.
The tour is designed to not only play rugby but also to understand the history of South Africa and very importantly, the reality and the hardship that exists within the country. In 2018, the boys visited two orphanages, Baphumelele Township and one orphanage in Durban, which made a real impact on our boys.
The boys enjoyed many extra activities including surfing lessons, helicopter rides, safari game drives (most saw the big 5!) waterparks, a shark dissection talk, visiting the seals and penguins and a cheetah outreach centre. It really was a trip of a lifetime!
