Year 6 enjoyed a day’s fieldwork to West Wittering on the Sussex Coast. Despite a few threatening clouds, the rain stayed away giving the boys a great opportunity to conduct a geographical study of coastal landforms, processes and proactive management in action. The boys were introduced to the study area, which included a discussion of spit formation, the impacts of coastal processes and the conflicts which arise from human activity. A highlight was exploring the dunes in order to see the saltmarsh behind and to get a better view of East Head spit and Chichester Harbour. A hugely worthwhile and enjoyable day which will help the boys better understand the dynamic and complex nature of our coastlines.
