Mr Driscoll reflects on the visit: ‘We were delighted to welcome six boys and Mr Andrew Hughes from Western Province Prep School (WPPS) in Cape Town to Shrewsbury House for two weeks. The boys were fully integrated in to life at SHS. They participated during all lessons and were especially intrigued with French and Latin! The boys were hosted by SHS families and, therefore, witnessed how a typical British family went about their daily lives. As well as the lessons the group attended, they also had a sight-seeing trip to London and Hampton Court. They had a brilliant evening visiting the theatre where they thoroughly enjoyed watching ‘The School of Rock’.
On their penultimate day, the WPPS boys gave an Assembly to our boys in which they spoke about their time at SHS ahead of their return to Cape Town. They spoke about the similarities and differences of the two schools, focussing on the languages in each curriculum. At WPPS they engage in isiXhosa and Afrikaans, whilst we study French and Latin. In their Assembly, they thanked their host families for their warmth and hospitality, myself for co-ordinating the visit and the SHS catering and transport staff for looking after them during their stay.
I would like to thank everybody at School, especially the host families for making the boys and staff from WPPS feel so welcome.’
