On Wednesday morning we were treated to an Assembly presented by Mr Foster’s Year 3 PE group, focusing on the haka. The boys explained that the haka is a type of ancient Māori war dance, traditionally delivered on the battlefield but also when groups came together in peace.
Haka are a fierce display of a tribe’s pride, strength and unity, perhaps better known through their delivery by the All Blacks before matches. The boys also played a video explaining the importance of haka to the Māori people.
The Assembly culminated rather splendidly with an inspired Shrewsbury House interpretation! Well done to all of the Year 3 boys and thank you to Mr Foster for coordinating the Assembly.
