Year 5 trip to The Rose Theatre to watch ‘The Boy At The Back Of The Class’

Year 5 journeyed to watch a production of ‘The Boy At The Back Of The Class.’ at The Rose Theatre. Based on the award winning novel of the same name by Onjali Rauf, the performance followed the experiences of a group of 9 year olds who meet a new boy; Ahmet. Ahmet is a Syrian refugee and the children learn about refugees, families and being different as they get to know him. Our Year 5s knew the plot and characters through their work in English, but loved seeing the story brought to life on stage. The cast made the performance engaging and accessible, and gave us all some great ideas for the upcoming Year 5 play too! Year 5 especially enjoyed all of the light hearted and funny moments such as when they got to laugh at the mean character being told off or cheer along with Ahmet’s goal scoring celebration. As expected, the boys’ behaviour was exemplary and there were smiles all round on the way back to school.
