The Science department took Year 8 out on a field trip to Stokes Field Nature Reserve, as part of their syllabus to look at relationships in an ecosystem. Despite a wet start, the boys were ready to learn the different methods of how to sample the flora and fauna of the area. They quickly found the benefits and constraints of using quadrats and transects, and learnt the names of key species.
Back in the classroom they then used the primary data they had collated to discuss the abundance and biodiversity of species. The boys also made suggestions on the impact humans, roads and developments can have on an ecosystem.
