At the beginning of December the History department took Year 8 to Portsmouth to visit the Mary Rose Museum. The museum staff in the Education Centre know our boys are very knowledgeable, and so staff at the museum do challenge them with their History and Latin.
In two groups the boys rotated through three activities; in one they handled Tudor artefacts and learned of their significance to the ship and to wider Tudor society; in another they toured the actual museum, stepping through an airlock to enter the carefully controlled atmosphere of the final resting place of Henry’s flagship; and lastly, through a bit of teamwork, they learned how to crew a Tudor cannon, which the boys thoroughly enjoyed.
