RSE
At Shrewsbury House the pupils receive Relationships Education in Year 3 to Year 6 and Relationships and Sex Education for pupils in Year 7 to Year 8. The focus in Year 3 to Year 6 is on teaching the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, with particular reference to friendships, family relationships, and relationships with other children and with adults. Parents, staff and pupils have been consulted about the programme and are given the opportunity to actively engage with it.
In Year 7 and Year 8 the focus is on providing our young people with the information they need to help them develop healthy, nurturing relationships of all kinds, not just intimate relationships. This will enable them to know what a healthy relationship looks like and what makes a good friend, a good colleague and a committed relationship. It will also teach them what acceptable and unacceptable behaviour in relationships is.
Our school values of respect, integrity and compassion underpin all aspects of Relationships and Sex Education. Through the delivery of this subject, we provide pupils with the knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy. Topics and themes covered in the subject will help to support our pupils develop resilience, to know how and when to ask for help, and to know where to access support. Parents are well-informed and are given the opportunity to attend talks and workshops throughout the year, to enable seamless support between home and School.
