Classics Masterclass

We were honoured to welcome Dr Steven Kennedy, Head of Classics at Harrow School, to deliver a Classics Masterclass to pupils in 7S.
The boys explored such diverse topics as the relevance of Classics to the modern day, different interpretations of Catullus’s poetry, the history of Ancient Persia and the representation of the myth of Theseus and Ariadne in ancient and modern art and literature. The boys excelled in their engagement and higher-level thinking skills, investigating questions which Dr Kennedy would usually pose to his A Level and Oxbridge students. They certainly put paid to Dr Kennedy’s opening point, that the ancient Greek word ‘schole’ actually means ‘freedom from work’! We are immensely grateful to Dr Kennedy for giving his time and energy to inspire and broaden the horizons of the Year 7 Scholars.
